history

When Yuuri sees a former classmate, Ken Murata, getting bullied he steps in and tries to stop it. It doesn't work out the way he planned, though, and the bullies end up dunking his head in a toilet, giving him a swirly in a nearby bathroom. But for some reason, the water pulls him in and he ends up in another world. In this world, Yuuri finds out that he's the destined king of Shin Makoku they've been waiting for. He's not just any king though—he's a demon king. Soon after finding this out, he meets the former queen's (Celi's) three sons—Gwendal, Conrad, and Wolfram. Unfortunately, Gwendal and Wolfram don't take an immediate liking to Yuuri, thinking he's not fit for the job. This eventually leads to a fight between Yuuri and Wolfram, resulting in Yuuri slapping Wolfram on the cheek. Much to Yuuri's dismay, this is a traditional way of proposing to marriage. So not only does he find out he's a king, he accidentally gets engaged. Of course, this leads to yet another fight between Yuuri and Wolfram, and in the end Yuuri comes out victorious. By some strange means, Yuuri manages to conjure two dragons made of water and wins the fight. This causes Wolfram to reluctantly accept Yuuri as the rightful king.

Not long after, Yuuri finds out that a nearby village has been attacked by humans and he rushes after to help. This event leads to his decision to become the king, believing that he can manage to prevent the war that is threatening to break out between the humans and demons. During his coronation ceremony, tradition dictates that he puts his hand through a waterfall, and he gets pulled back to Earth.

Before long, Yuuri finds himself back in Shin Makoku and learns that the humans and demons are closer to going to war than ever before. So Yuuri is told by Gunter (one of his advisers) to get the legendary sword, Morgif. He, Conrad, and Wolfram set out to find the sword that's rumored to be located on Van da Via island. But during the night, pirates attack the ship and Yuuri ends up succumbing to his magic and scares them off when they injure a young girl who is aboard the ship. Afterwards, to keep Yuuri's identify from being discovered, they escape on a smaller boat to the island with the help of one of Conrad's old friends, Jozak. Once they reach the island, Yuuri manages to grab hold of the sword at the bottom of a hot spring. The sword is useless, though, and Yuuri finds out that it has to absorb souls in order to become stronger. So Jozak tricks Yuuri into entering a gladiatorial contest, and his opponent ends up being someone Yuuri recognizes from the ship. Despite almost winning the fight, Yuuri refuses to kill his opponent and Morgif absorbs the soul of a dying man in the audience which gives Yuuri and his friends a chance to escape. When they return to Shin Makoku, Yuuri decides to get rid of the stone in Morgif's hilt that gives it it's power, entrusting Jozak to get rid of it, despite the fact that he deceived Yuuri earlier. Later that night, Yuuri is taken back to Earth when he takes a bath.

A few months later, Yuuri and Murata go on a trip to Sea World, where they watch a dolphin show. Yuuri is chosen as the lucky audience member to participate in the show, but once he gets down to the water he once again finds himself in Shin Makoku. Yuuri hears about a Demon Flute that would be useful and decides to set out to go get it. But on the way, they get attacked and only Yuuri and Gwendal manage to escape completely unscathed. Unfortunately, they're immediately arrested for looking like the couple on wanted posters all over the nearby town. They manage to hide for a short time, meeting a girl named Nicola who reveals that she has the flute, and much to Yuuri's dismay it doesn't work when he tries to use it. Shortly after, they're discovered and Yuuri is sentenced to work in the mines and Gwnendal is confined. When Yuuri sees several guards at the mine trying to bury a still living baby, he loses control and ends up using magic against them. Luckily he's stopped by Gwendal before he can go any further, and as a result of this chaos he finds the missing part of the Demon Flute. The flute finally works and creates a big storm that buys Yuuri and Gwendal time to escape.

Not long after they return to Shin Makoku, Yuuri gets the news that someone claiming to be his illegitimate child has arrived at the castle. Wondering what it's about, Yuuri decides to meet with the child. But in a twist of events, the child tries to assassinate him and Yuuri sprains his ankle dodging the attack. But in typical Yuuri fashion, he forgives the girl and lets her stay at the castle, eventually inviting her along the trip to the hot spring that will heal his ankle. During the trip, Yuuri and Greta go into town at her request and end up almost getting attacked by a masked stranger. Said stranger turns out to be someone who betrayed Gwendal in the past, but Greta pleads for his life and Yuuri requests that they listen to Greta. They return back to Shin Makoku with the man that attacked Yuuri in tow, and he manages to get his freedom when Yuuri is insistent upon it. Before Yuuri gets transported back to Earth, he decides to adopt Greta, as the two had become close during the trip.

A few months later, Yuuri and Murata are working on the beach during the summer, and when asked to retrieve a girl's swimsuit top that got washed away in a cave, Yuuri once again finds himself back in the other world.

Minutes after he's arrived, he's told that he was summoned by some unknown force and they have to get to a safe place. Unfortunately, before they can get anywhere, they're surrounded and Conrad decides to send Yuuri back to Earth through a painting. Not everything goes as planned, though, because Conrad's arm gets cut off and he's kidnapped. The spell doesn't work as planned and Yuuri ends up in an unknown country, this time with Murata. While there, Murata decides they need to find an ambassador and a while later they manage to find the large home of the masked prince of Caloria, the country they've found themselves in. They're caught for tresspassing, though, but Yuuri's amulet is recognized as Julia Wincotts and they're immediately taken in to have dinner with the prince because of the fact that the Wincotts used to rule over Caloria. This dinner is interrupted, though, by representatives from Small Shimaron and it's revealed that the prince is in fact a woman—the prince had died three years earlier and his wife had taken over in secret.

The late prince's wife, Flynn, then holds Yuuri and Murata captive for several days before eventually taking them across Small Shimaron with the hopes of eventually reaching Big Shimaron. She eventually tells Yuuri that she wants to bring a special poison, which allows any member of the Wincott family to control the victim, to Big Shimaron in a deal to keep Caloria safe from Small Shimaron. This plan falls through when the ship they board to Big Shimaron is attacked by Small Shimaron. It's revealed that the king of Small Shimaron plans to test out a magical item on the ship's passengers, and the magical item happens to be a box that, with the right key, can cause great destruction to the land. Much to Yuuri's dismay, the key happens to be Conrad's arm and before Yuuri can do anything to stop them, they put the "key" in the box. This causes large cracks to open up the ground beneath them, and many fall into the crevices. Yuuri manages to use his powers in this moment, flooding these crevices with water so that everyone can stay afloat. But Yuuri doesn't get a chance to save himself as another crack opens up beneath him and he just barely manages to grab onto the ledge. Wolfram (who had been searching for Yuuri this whole time) manages to grab him just in time, though, as he almost loses his grip.

While everyone is safe, unfortunately Caloria has suffered severe damage from the box's power. Since Small Shimaron still has a box, they devise a plan to take it from them. They decide to enter a contest that will grant them some sort of prize—and that will give them the chance to request the box as a prize. Yuuri, Wolfram, and Jozak end up entering the contest. On the way to Big Shimaron, Yuuri finds out that Murata has memory of all of his past lives, and that he is destined to advise Yuuri on how to rule Shin Makoku, as he was the original king's adviser. This news comes as a shock to Yuuri, but he still reluctantly accepts it and forgives Murata for not telling him.

When they reach Big Shimaron, everything goes smoothly up until the moment where they will win the tournament with Jozak fighting for the last point they need. They have to win two out of three battles against Big Shimaron's team. Since Wolfram won the first match Jozak needs to win the next battle for Caloria to win the tournament. But Yuuri receives a letter that Flynn has been kidnapped and will be killed unless they purposely lose the match. So, Jozak loses and Flynn is saved by the former queen, Celi. Therefore, it's up to Yuuri to win the third battle so they can take home the win for Caloria. During this battle, Yuuri finds out Conrad is working for Big Shimaron and is about to fight him when the opponent from the second fight steps in instead. During this battle, Yuuri gets injured enough that the other being inside of him takes over and wins the battle for him. When Yuuri wakes up, he finds out they've won.

As the winners, Yuuri gets to request the prize. Instead of asking for the box, however, he instead requests that Caloria gain its independence knowing that that is what would be best for the people there. Later on at the reception for the tournament, Yuuri tells Flynn that she is now free to rule Caloria as she pleases and pledges her allegiance to him. Afterward, they decide to stage a fake death for the prince, using the mask that Flynn wore to masquerade as him. With all of his business with Caloria finished, Yuuri heads on a boat back to Shin Makoku. Just as he's about to get off the boat, though, he gets sucked into a giant bin of water and is transported back to Earth.
